Poll Shows Brewer one of top-ranked Kansas politicians

A new non-partisan poll from Fort Hays State University’s Docking Institute for Public Affairs ranks former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer as one of the top two politicians in the state.

Brewer, who has announced his candidacy for Kansas governor, was second only to  Paul Davis, the 2014 Democratic gubernatorial candidate who is currently a candidate to represent the 2nd Congressional District in northeast Kansas.

The study showed Brewer as the Democrat with 2nd best name recognition behind  Davis. His name identification and approval rating were well ahead of Wink Hartman, Wichita oilman who currently is the only declared Republican gubernatorial candidate.

A new non-partisan poll from Fort Hays State University’s Docking Institute for Public
Affairs ranks former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer as one of the top two politicians in the
state.

Brewer, who has announced his candidacy for Kansas governor, was second only to
Paul Davis, the 2014 Democratic gubernatorial candidate who is currently a candidate
to represent the 2nd Congressional District in northeast Kansas.

The study showed Brewer as the Democrat with 2nd best name recognition behind
Davis. His name identification and approval rating were well ahead of Wink Hartman,
Wichita oilman who currently is the only declared Republican gubernatorial candidate.

The poll also reinforced Brewer’s campaign theme of “getting Kansas back on track.”
Nearly two-thirds of respondents said Kansas was on the wrong track.

They were equally unhappy with the state’s economy, as 77 percent said they were very
concerned, moderately concerned or slightly concerned that the Kansas economy will
seriously threaten them or their family’s welfare in the coming year.

“This poll is more evidence that it is time for new leadership in Topeka,” Brewer
responded. “Kansans deserve better.”

Brewer cited his successful leadership as Wichita mayor, guiding the state’s largest city
through the Great Recession.

“State government can learn from the effective strategies used by elected officials at the
city, county and school district level,” he said. “Those strategies are based on common
sense with an ear to the voice of people.”
