Carl Brewer announces former Gardner Mayor and Johnson County Democratic Vice-Chair Chris Morrow as running mate
Carl Brewer announces Chris Morrow as his running mate. Morrow is the former Mayor and City Council member from Gardner Kansas, and a United States Navy veteran. Morrow is a proven leader with a track record of achievement in Gardner and his selection establishes the Brewer-Morrow ticket as the true-blue progressive option for Democrats and Kansas voters in the 2018 primary and general election. Both members of the ticket are lifelong Democrats and they represent the values of residents across our great state.
"It was incredibly important for me to pick the right person to be my Lieutenant Governor," said Brewer. "I knew I needed to find someone who would stand up for all Kansans, someone who shared the same values and ideals as I did. With Chris, you have a person who has shown again and again that he listens to the community he serves and will put in the necessary work to get the job done."
Brewer and Morrow have years of experience as top elected officials in their respective cities, experience in helping grow the economy, maintaining infrastructure, and providing outstanding public safety. They also recognize the need for exceptional public education and a high quality of life. Their years of service have yielded results, and both their towns thrived under their leadership. Morrow ticket have fought and won tough elections in a predominantly conservative communities.
After serving two years on the Gardner City Council, Morrow was elected and served one term as mayor. Morrow’s leadership has been shown repeatedly by the many high rankings Gardner has received from different organizations during his' time as mayor. This includes top five (5) rankings in categories such as:

- Fastest Growing City in Kansas
- Best Cities to Raise a Family in Kansas
- Safest Small Towns in Kansas
- Safest and Most Peaceful Places to Live in Kansas
In addition to leading the City of Gardner, Morrow served in numerous other leadership positions including with the Kansas Mayors Association, Mid-America Regional Council, Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation, and Kansas Municipal Utilities.
He’s also been active was active with the Gardner-Edgerton Chamber of Commerce, the League of Kansas Municipalities (LKM), and is a member of American Legion LeRoy Hill Post 19, and the Gardner Rotary Club. Morrow currently serves as board member on the Johnson County Commission on Aging, and is the Vice-Chair for the Johnson County Kansas Democratic Party Executive Board.
While participating with the LKM, Carl and Chris became acquainted.
Chris Morrow is a third-generation Kansan, raised in Roeland Park. He has lived in Gardner for the last 12 years with his wife Melissa, between them they have six children. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy he worked for 25+ years in the employment agency industry. He also recently received his real estate license.
